RICHARD MARTIN

Technical Director

Richard’s technical theatre career commenced in 1979 with Opera Australia, based at the Sydney Opera House. In 1989 he joined Cameron Mackintosh’s Australian company spending 10 years as Mechanical Manager then Technical Manager, supervising productions touring throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia and South Africa - including Cats, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Five Guys Named Moe, Miss Saigon and Rent. During this period Richard was also Technical Manager for Aspects of Love and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Since launching Martin Production in 1999 Richard has provided Technical Management on many projects including the 50th Anniversary of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, Los Misérables in Buenos Aires, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Slava’s Snowshow, followed by Technical Management for the Zemiro Inc./Really Useful Company production of The Phantom of the Opera in Seoul, South Korea.

Technical Direction & Management for the IMG & DAE production of Singin’ In The Rain, Australasian tour of Saturday Night Fever, the Australian Tour of Sam Mendes production ofCabaret. In 2002 Richard resumed his long-standing relationship with the Cameron Mackintosh Organisation as Technical Director for the IMG presentation of Oliver! which playing Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore. From 2003 to 2007 Richard supplied Technical Management & Direction for The Really Useful Company’s South African/Asian tour of The Phantom Of The Opera and in 2006 was Technical Director on The Boy From Oz Arena Tour starring Hugh Jackman on its Australian Tour. In 2007 came Technical & Production Management to Kookaburra Musical Theatre Company productions of Pippin & Company and the Melbourne production of Spamalot.

 

During this time included Disney’s The Lion King in Sydney, Melbourne, Shanghai, Johannesburg South Africa then, in 2008, the Taiwan Arena. The Arena presentation was made possible utilising the revolutionary, world first, Mother Grid fly system that Richard developed in conjunction with Stage One Creative Services Ltd in the UK. 

As Technical Producer for Jacobsen Entertainment Ltd International productions of Dirty Dancing Richard was responsible for Australia, Hamburg, London’s West End, Toronto, Utrecht in Holland, Chicago, Boston then Berlin.

Technical Direction & Production Management for the Really Useful Company & John Frost Organization tour of The Phantom of The Opera in Australia, New Zealand, Taipei Arena, Seoul & Daegu in South Korea. Disney’s High School Musical Live Onstage. For DAE produced Shanghai World Expo 2010 Opening Ceremony, tours of Mary Poppins, Hairspray, Wicked, Love Never Dies, The Lion King in Singapore, The Phantom of the Opera Cape Town & Johannesburg South Africa seasons.

February 2012 Richard joined Global Creatures Pty Ltd as Technical Director, then Head of Technical Production, to develop and present the World Premiere of the new stage event King Kong Live Onstage, overseeing the Nth American Arena & Australian Tour of Walking With Dinosaurs and Strictly Ballroom.

 

2015 saw Richard return to Martin Production with Technical Director credits for The Phantom Of The Opera in Guangzhou & Beijing China, Strictly Ballroom in Australia, Saturday Night Fever in Manila, Tourism Australia’s 2016 USA campaign launch in Bryant Park New York, Opera Australia/GFO production of My Fair Lady, We Will Rock You, The Wizard of Oz, Muriel’s Wedding, The Beast, White Night 2017 for DAE in Melbourne & Ballarat. 2018 included Priscilla Queen of the Desert Australian Tour, King Kong Live Onstage Broadway USA,  The Lion King International Tour with seasons to date in Manila Philippines, Singapore, Daegu/Seoul/Busan South Korea, Taipei Arena, Bangkok Thailand & Hong Kong AWE Arena.  

  

Consultancy projects included Sands Casino Launch in Macau, King Kong Live Onstage, Strictly Ballroom, Walking With Dinosaurs World Tour, The Really Useful Group UK, KHAM Inc Taiwan.

Richard continues to consult on new entertainment venues, developing productions for Theatre, Arena, Stadium and Theme Parks along with Event & Launches throughout the world.

DAWN MARTIN

General Manager

Since graduating from the University of Kent at Canterbury, England, with a degree in the Performing Arts, Dawn has gained considerable experience working in a number of roles within the theatre industry in regional England, London's West End (Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, Carousel, Crazy for You, Tap Dogs), touring internationally and within Australia. Roles include production stage manager, production administrator, resident director,  company manager and more recently various producing positions.


Throughout her career Dawn has also worked as a coordinator, stage manager and producer for indoor and outdoor events. Dawn was calling Stage Manager for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the Opening Ceremony of Shanghai World Expo, 2010, and more recently for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney and the ICC T20 Women's World Cup Opening Ceremony. Dawn was also Tour Manager for comedienne Victoria Wood in 1994 and bass baritone Bryn Terfel in 2000.

Since 2000 Dawn has worked as Production Stage Manager on numerous shows including: Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Oliver!, The Lion King, Priscilla Queen of the Dessert the Musical and Love Never Dies.  In 2013/14 Dawn was Production Stage Manager/Resident Director for King Kong Live Onstage for Global Creatures at the Regent Theatre, Melbourne, and in 2015 Stage Manager for The Phantom of the Opera at Taipei Arena, Taiwan and Asia World - Expo Arena in Hong Kong. Dawn has also been involved in the production of a number of events including the annual Helpmann Awards, concerts for the Australian Marine Conservation Society, Hummingsong Community Choirs, The Socceroos 10th Anniversary Gala, NSW Premier’s Seniors’ Concerts,  Defying Gravity, the songs of Stephen Schwarz at the Theatre Royal, Sydney and a celebration of the life of producer Harry M Miller at the Capitol Theatre in 2018.


Most recently Dawn was Company Manager for the Michael Cassel Group’s productions of Kinky Boots and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Production Associate for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Princess Theatre, Melbourne and Executive Producer for the 2019 Helpmann Awards at the Arts Centre, Melbourne. In 2020 Dawn was Guest Artist Director for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra's 1950s Latin Lounge and A Valentine's Day to Remember concerts, and Associate Producer for Rita Wilson, a concert in the Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House. Dawn has been the General Manager for Martin Production Pty Ltd since founding the company in 1999 with her husband and business partner Richard Martin.
